About John

John Burland is an Educator and Composer who has been writing and recording religious music for children and adults for over twenty years. He has worked with children and educators in schools, parish communities and educational institutions across Australia and North America promoting the celebration of our Catholic faith through song, movement, meditative prayer and story.

Education

Throughout his career, John has been working in Primary/Elementary schools throughout Sydney holding a variety of executive positions including that of Religious Education Coordinator, Assistant Principal and Acting Principal. He holds a Bachelor of Education, Post Graduate Diploma in Religious Education, and is currently completing further study in Religious Education and Theology.

Celebrations

He was the Associate Musical Director and contributing songwriter for “Jubilee 2000”, a celebration of over 93,000 Sydney Catholic school students, teachers, parents and religious at Stadium Australia in March 2000, and was the Associate Musical Director and a featured performer for the Archdiocese of Sydney Official Jubilee Celebration, “Celebrate 2000”.

Community Work & Music

John has specifically written songs and lead celebrations for organisations such as Austcare, Centacare, Catholic Education Office, Sydney, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and the Australian National Primary Principals' Conference.

His musical collections include “Songs For The Journey”, “Let's Celebrate”, “Let's Celebrate Too!”, “Sacred Moments”, Celebrating The Sacraments”, “One Family”, “Christmas Star” and “Lord Teach Me Your Ways”.

International Experience

John regularly presents workshops and celebrations across the United States. He was a workshop presenter at the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Religious Education Congress in 2002/2004/2005/2006 and at the National Catholic Educational Association Conventions in 2002 (Atlantic City), 2003 (St Louis), 2004 (Boston), 2005 (Philadelphia), 2006 (Atlanta) and 2007 (Baltimore). John works in partnership with Harcourt Religion publishers who are distributing his materials in the USA.

Currently

John works for the Catholic Education Office in Sydney as the Project Officer- Liturgy/Music, where he conducts workshops, celebrations and reflection days for children, teachers and parish communities. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Sydney, Australia.
